Happenstance Art & Framing presents Salon des Refusés 2019
Coordinated by Happenstance Art and Framing
Inspired by its 19th Century Parisian namesake, Happenstance’s Salon des Refusés is an annual celebration of artworks misunderstood, overlooked, omitted or sacrificed at the last minute by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The Salon des Refusés provides a unique platform for artists whose work is refused by the RA selection committee.
This year’s Salon des Refusés presents artworks by over a hundred artists. Based on a truly open call with no restrictions on submissions (other than running out of space) the Salon des Refusés promises a democratic counterbalance to more conventional exhibition models.
Works range from paintings and drawings to ceramics and sculpture. All artworks are for sale and are very reasonably priced.
Entry to the exhibition is free of charge. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite works via social media using the hashtag #votesalon with winners announced at the exhibition’s finale.
Workshops, live performances and DJs will complement the exhibition with a programme of experimental music, ambient electronica and sound art. Watch this space for details.
The Salon des Refusés was launched in 2012 and this is the first time is it running outside of the capital. The exhibition is coordinated by Happenstance Art & Framing, an independent pop-up gallery and framing studio run by Anastasia Popoola. Visit website or Twitter for more details.
